Director:
It is a story about the premise of a police officer finding himself married to a ghost and the unexpected twists that follow.
From a thematic perspective, the film indirectly connects with the narrative of invisible shame associated with gay identity. At its core, "Marry My Dead Body" possesses an underlying stubbornness, which subtly reflects feelings of humiliation and resentment that are often experienced by individuals facing societal pressure and marginalization. The interesting thing lies in its portrayal of a double-sided contempt and antagonism, which deviates from the typical storytelling pattern where heterosexuality is presented as the dominant reality. This approach challenges the conventional narrative, where homosexuality is often relegated to a lower position and subjected to an atmosphere of low pressure, mirroring the societal stigma and discrimination faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in many cultures.
I originally just wanted to watch it for fun and relaxing, but the ending touches me. There are two character relationship branches in this story that moved me. One is the relationship between the protagonist Chen Chia-hao and his ghost bride, and the other is the relationship between the ghost bride and his father. However, the portrayal of the characters and their relationships in this movie is still too conventional and ordinary.
One takeaway is that, in real life, many misunderstandings in interpersonal relationships arise from the fact that appearances can be deceiving.
